Day in the Life

One of the many benefits of the Highline Virtual Academy is the ability to set your schedule, work location and take breaks when you need to. Below is a sample schedule a Highline Virtual Academy student may follow. Because the schedule is flexible, this is an example only. 

8:00 - 8:15 a.m.

Get Organized! 

Prepare for your day. Make sure you eat a good breakfast, check your messages and set a plan of what your want to accomplish. 

8:30-8:45 a.m.

Login for Advisory

Advisory is one of the classes with a set time. Check in with your teacher and fellow students to connect and see how everyone is doing. Talk about current events, learning plans, and look forward to career and college.

8:45-8:50 a.m. | 5-minute break

8:50 - 9:40 a.m.

Math

Get your math tools out and get ready to ADD math to your day. 

9:40-9:45 a.m.

5-minute break 

Take 5 minutes or 20. The advantage to online-learning is your ability to take breaks when you need to. 

Taking a break restores attention and relieves mental strain and fatigue.

Consider using a timer to keep you on track and on schedule. 

 

9:45-10:35 a.m.

Science

Science courses you'll need for graduation are Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Some AP classes will be offered. Courses will help you make sense of the natural world and design solutions to real-world problems.

10:00 - 10:30 a.m.

Office Hours

Work with other students and a teacher on your course content. Have a question about something you just learned or read? Teachers are available throughout the school day through text, chat and email. Check in with questions on your subject and connect with other students.

Language Arts

Read critically, analyze texts and cite evidence to support ideas.

11:30 a.m. - Noon

Have lunch at home, in a local shop or at a park. Students at HVA have flexibility in their schedule and their location. 

12:00 - 12:50 p.m.

Social Studies

Analyze global current and historical events through geography, economics, history and civics lenses.

12:30 - 12:50 p.m.
