Most high school students will earn 6 credits per academic year. Students can move at a faster pace, however there will be some limits. This guidance will be established in the coming months and on an individual student basis. 

Students enrolled in HVA have the option to access Running Start, PSSC, Sports, Music/Band/Choir and ancillary services in their neighborhood school. 

Just like any other secondary school, students will engage in activities to explore and prepare for careers and post-secondary education; this includes college visits, career visits and more.  

Services for special education will be planned by special education staff in collaboration with families and other school staff.Those interested should apply.  Families, students and special education staff will discuss options and develop plans based on students’ individualized education plan. 

Students will earn a diploma when graduation requirements are met.  School leadership, with student voice, will plan for the graduation celebration.  

Yes, students can enroll in programming at both PSSC or through the Running Start program. 

The core instruction will be delivered through Edgenuity, an online learning platform. Live virtual instruction opportunities include small group and individual support. There will also be face-to-face weekly virtual sessions with staff and students that includes social emotional learning.

The Virtual Academy is not a short-term school or learning plan and is not a response to the ongoing pandemic. 

Students who complete  graduation requirements will receive a high school diploma and a transcript that will be recognized by universities, consistent with other diplomas and transcripts issued in Highline. 

World language courses are available through Edgenuity courses

The weekly live sessions will provide an opportunity for staff and students to connect and find support. We also anticipate community activities to evolve as student leadership develops based on interests and clubs are formed.
